Note:  Regrettably we have had to suspend operations while we search for a new location.  Please still feel free to contact us if you are interested in local sustainable agriculture, as we continue to add to our database, and we can suggest other alternatives to Happy Farms.

WELCOME TO THE HAPPY FARMS WEB SITE

Our Mission

It is the mission of Happy Farms to to engage our local community in natural, organic agriculture as a

model of healthy sustainable living which demonstrates and teaches the integrated, interconnected, and

interdependent nature of life on "spaceship earth" and to be staunch proponents of the five "Rs"-

Respect, Reduce, Reuse, Repair, and Recycle.

Organization Profile

Happy Farms' CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) is a not-for-profit totally organic farm nestled in

the foothills of the east side Mt. Diablo, with a Clayton mailing address.  We have been in operation since

the summer of 1999 and our group consists of "the Happy Farmer," Dave Buck, and about 40 families

who share in various ways, the duties of running a cooperative farm and raising the crops.  We operate

year around, harvesting weekly, distributing what we harvest among our member shares. Using no

sprays, totally committed to producing healthy plants through building a healthy soil, we essentially

guarantee our members three things:  1) the freshest food possible; 2) the healthiest food possible; and

3) that you probably will get some bugs with your produce (healthy, organic fed bugs).

Happy Farms occupies over two acres, featuring a young fruit orchard with a variety of apricots,

nectarines, peaches, and plums, raised vegetables beds, extensive composting, a worm farm, a geodesic

dome greenhouse, a workshop and distribution shed built out of used garage doors, a baby tractor

running on biodiesel fuel (a fuel for diesel engines made from vegetable oil), and an above ground

strawbale root cellar (essentially a walk-in refrigerator).

What is CSA?

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture.  The premise is simple:

-Become a member of a local farm by agreeing to pay for the farmer's produce in advance.

-Receive the freshest, healthiest seasonal food.

-Keep money, jobs, and farms in the community.
